'Cupid', oil on canvas (Belgian linen), 50" x 28", painted in 1997. The painting is based on one of the 'Cupid' paintings of French academic painter William Bouguereau. The painting has until now remained in the private collection of the artist and is in mint condition. The painting depicts Cupid taking shelter under a tree from an approaching rain storm, his bow and arrows on the ground behind him. The painting was executed in the traditional manner of an underpainting on a toned ground followed by several paint layers and some glazing. A connoisseur's piece, this painting will be a welcome addition to any serious collection.
